Sugar Mountain is a small village located in Avery
County, North Carolina. Located in what is known as the
High Country of North Carolina, Sugar Mountain is one of
the top vacation spots in the area; perhaps because it
is home to Sugar Mountain Ski Resort, NC’s
largest ski area.
With a very small year round population, Sugar Mountain
enjoys seeing visitors from all over, that cause the
population to swell into the thousands during the winter
ski season and summer season. Most residents of
Sugar Mountain NC have second NC mountain homes or vacation homes
here and love the gorgeous long range views that can be
seen from Sugar Top, and the beautiful blooms and
greenery in the warmer months. Many residents also keep
homes on Sugar Mountain because of the ski slopes and
enjoy being so close to the 115 acres of ski and
snowboard areas.
The weather on Sugar Mountain NC is excellent and with
each season comes a distinct pattern. Summer in the
North Carolina mountains is unlike any place else. Visitors come from
all around to escape from the heat off the mountain.
Daytime temps in June, July and August usually remain in
the mid 70s with night temperatures still invigorating
in the mid 50s. In the fall, the air turns cooler and
the leaves change to beautiful oranges, yellows and
reds, blanketing the area in color. Winter is simply ---
a winter wonderland! During this time, temperatures
remain around freezing usually, and drop to very low
digits. Spring is always a pleasant time in the North
Carolina mountains and
offers an “explosion” of flowers and blooms.
The beautiful scenery and location to the ski areas make
Sugar Mountain NC the perfect place to own a vacation
chalet or home. In addition to being located next to the
slopes, Sugar Mountain NC is also quite close to Banner Elk
and Boone, so you can enjoy those areas as well. For
those few residents that live in the area permanently,
the economy of the area is excellent, and the schools in
the area are nationally award winning schools. Who would
